Reply with quote | #1 | I just listened to the podcast and I think I did pretty well. I did misspeak at one point when I said I was highly ranked in Google in the early 90's - I mean the early 2000's. I was a little tired when I did the interview.
My part of the podcast begins at around the 48:22 point, so feel free to skip ahead. Here is the podcast link.
Feel free to post comments.

If it's your immense compilation of game reviews, then you should update on the book annually. |

Reply with quote | #5 | Hey Critic, nice interview. I've always thought you should compile your reviews into a book, and I've wondered why it never came to fruitation. Glad to hear though that it's something your keeping in mind and that the only holdback is a publisher.
However, both you and the interviewer seemed at a loss when thinking of any similar books that had been published. There is at least one the I know of: The Video Games Guide by Matt Fox. It is very similar to a movie guide and was published in the UK, and you can find it on Amazon at the link below. I've read the entire 500+ pages. Honestly, the actual content is pretty sparse (you have far more reviews on your site) and, because its from the UK, it focuses too heavily on computer games from the 80s (Spectrum, Commodore, etc). The saving grace of the book is that the guy is clearly extremely passionate about games and this makes it enjoyable to read. So as long as someone understands what the content is and isn't expecting a comprehensive guide, then it's a decent book to put in your game room. However, you share that same passion and have far more reviews written (and your letter grade rating system is far better than his 5-star system). Your content is very comprehensive, so much so that you'd probably have to either edit out reviews or (hopefully) release in multiple volumes. Hope to see it happen someday.

Reply with quote | #6 | Great interview, Dave! You have a good internet "radio" voice.
Have you thought about doing a periodic podcast with some of your friends to talk about video games? It could take the format of the "Whatcha Been Playin?" segment from the 1Up podcast - a general bull session going around just talking about what you've been playing lately. I would definitely love to hear that. |

Reply with quote | #8 | In fact, you ought to do a podcast after the next Video Game Mania with some of the participants, telling stories about the event.
Speaking of which, when is the next Video Game Mania? |

Reply with quote | #9 | I have to say I'm not a big podcast fan (could be something to do with not having an iPod) but I loved that first episode and you were the most articulate interviewee. I thought there was a book in the works for atari reviews ... ? Did I imagine that? |

Reply with quote | #10 | My friend Eric teased me about the interview, and said when I talked about reading my book "on the porch" it was my codeword for "on the toilet". Pretty funny.
I don't have any plans for the next Video Game Mania yet, so it might not be until the Spring... |

If you don't do a full blown Mania, do some kind of winter gaming tournament. |

Reply with quote | #12 | Ok, finally got to listen to the podcast. I had some audio troubles before, but today was able to download the mp3 on the Racketboy site (where I also post as Weekend_Warrior on the forums).
Anyway, it's good to see Dave get some recognition. I think this is a very well-managed website with a lot of good, honest information about video game systems and the games that are available for them.
I usually visit here several times a day by checking the forum or looking up older games that I have suddenly taken interest in, and quite a few times it has been his review which has either persuaded me to a buy a game or to clearly stay away from it. And while I certainly haven't agreed with every one of his reviews on the site, I think that I do tend to agree with him roughly 95% of the time.
The only thing that I've ever wondered about and have never asked "The Critic" before, is why he hasn't done any video reviews? I think it might make for a cool addition once in awhile - a special video review of something like "Hydro Thunder" or "New Super Mario Bros Wii." |

Reply with quote | #14 | Just wanted to say that I listened to the podcast. It was nice to understand who the Critic is. I'm glad you gave us a heads up. I'll keep a tab on the podcast and maybe you'll show up another time.
