I just picked up a used copy of GTA 4 for Xbox 360. The first copy would not work. I returned it and the second copy will not work. Each copy is used. Each disc looks fine. All of my other games for my 360 work. So what gives? |

Reply with quote | #2 | Are you sure it's the original version and not an add-on pack?
Has your 360 been modded in any way?
Is your 360 running the latest firmware update, etc? |

i have bought a few pre owned games that haven't worked for the 360 must just be unlucky. although my copy of gta 4 seems to be indestructible it has one of those round scratches from wen i knocked the console over and is covered in other scratches still works fine. |

Reply with quote | #5 | The game store didn't do something dumb, like put the PS3 version in the case, did they?
Does it give some sort of error message - "disk unreadable", "not a supported format", something like that?

It is the Xbox version. It will play the introduction scene, then always freeze up at the same point. I even tryed to play it by downlaoding it to the harddrive. But, it always says the same thing. Disc cannot be read. Tells me to try to clean it. Simply will not work. |

Reply with quote | #7 | Perhaps the game store in question has been resurfacing their used discs and its ruining them as a result? |

Sounds to me like your console is on it's way out. I encountered a similar problem with Test Drive Unlimited just prior to the RROD. It's not a disc problem, a resurfacing problem, etc. Wouldn't be doing it at the exact same spot with two different copies of the game. And you didn't get the add-on pack, it's a standalone game and wouldn't exhibit this kind of behavior. |

Reply with quote | #9 | My money is on your drive having problems reading disks. For giggles try 'copying' the game to the hard drive. If that doesn't work, you could always purchase the download version of the game assuming you have enough space. |

Thanks guys for all your help. However I took the game back and got Silent Hill 5. Which is working fine. I hate to say it but I think Leo and Actraiser may be right. My console may be on it's way out. I do appreciate everybody's advice. On a side note I find Silent Hill 5 to be better than the luke warm reviews it has received. Perhaps that is because I happen to be a big fan of the series. |

Reply with quote | #11 | So we're going to assume that GTAIV puts a harder strain on the 360 than other games - and that's why it won't work? |

Nah, it's got something to do with it being a double layer dvd disk and streaming from it. I was constantly getting disk read errors on the darn thing all the time. That's why I quit playing it, well, that and I got sick of restarting missions all the time. Once you install it to the hard drive, problems like that go away. I got the same thing in Fallout quite often. |
