Reply with quote | #1 | It took me a while, but I finally got around to writing this review. I am thoroughly impressed with this game, and would highly recommend it this holiday season. |

Reply with quote | #3 | I really like the presentation in this game and have played the PS3 demo, but I find the frequent slowdown in the game to be EXTREMELY annoying and intolerable.
Whether or not it's an intentional effect or not, I simply do not care. I can't stand it, it doesn't need to be seen in every single fight, and it clearly ruins the flow of gameplay for me.
I know I'm not alone on this either because I've read/heard a lot of other people complain about it on the net and at various game stores, too.
I think they should have at least included an option to turn the effect off. |

Reply with quote | #4 | Critic, how long did it take you to beat the game?
I've been playing it over the last couple of weeks off and on during the evenings. I'm kind of interested in knowing how long I've got before it ends. So far it's been an amazing ride. The best part of the game is that it reminds me of the very dark WB Batman cartoons. I think it's even voiced by the same actors.
As for the slow down complaints, I've no idea what you're talking about. The only thing I can think of would be the stylish take downs, which look very cool and don't actually take any more time than just a normal take down.

Reply with quote | #5 | I for one had no problem with this slowdown effect, it didn't bother me, quite the opposite, actually. What an awesome game! The VGC found it too long, funny, if I were to complain, I'd say the main quest is too short! But there are lots of other things to do, like solving the Riddler riddles for instance, and if you want to unlock everything, the game should keep you busy long after you beat it. Also, there are lots of special challenges/trials to overcome, with online ranking, and the PS3 version actually gives you the option to play as the Joker himself!

But did they really have to use the effect every single time he delivers a killer blow to one of his enemies?
If you had no problem with it, that's fine. But myself and a lot of other people did. And like I said, I think they should have at least had an option in the menu screen to turn the effect off.
When I'm playing a beat-em up or a hack-and-slash style game, I like all the animations to be nice and fluid with non-stop, pulse rising action. I don't want it to frequently slowdown in the middle of a brawl. It really throws my timing off and overall just doesn't seem necessary, in my opinion. |

Reply with quote | #7 | This is a great game and a marvelous achievement in gaming this year, and I'm so glad to hear that the Critic enjoyed it as much as I did. However, I have to strongly disagree with his criticism that it draws itself out to make it feel longer than it really is, because I don't think the game does that. If you want an example of a game that is clearly artificially lengthened so that it can seem longer than it is, take another look at a game like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and then tell me if Arkham Asylum deserves to have that complaint thrown onto it and if Zelda deserved to get a complete pass on that. |

Reply with quote | #8 | Luke: you're entitled to your opinion, but, personnally, I think
this effect looks great. Should you give the game another try, you
I'm confident you'd eventually overlook this minor detail- when it's
all said and done, that what this is- and see how great the whole game
actually is. I think this is as good, albeit very different, as the first NES Batman,
and that's saying something! |

Reply with quote | #9 | I got to thinking about it. The whole slowmo thing may occur more often in the demo than in the actual game. It seems to be about 1 out of every 4 henchman. It certainly doesn't do it every time. Likewise, there are multiple ways to take down henchman which makes the occurrence of the slowmo more a neat thing than anything else.
just my two cents // love the drop from the gargoyle move and hang the guys in mid air. I especially love the way you can cut the rope and drop the same henchman on another and scare the bejesus out of him. Good times. hehe

Reply with quote | #10 | Yeah, these slowdowns were meant to be stylish...
Anyways, anyone ever tried Batman for the Pc Engine/
TG 16?? It's from Sunsoft, like the first NES games, and
plays kinda (heavy on kinda) like Pacman. It's really cool,
and packs some pretty cool musics, one track being straight
from the first NES game (the first stage). It's underrated, but
certainly worth playing. |
